This site is not, nor has it ever intended to be a gossip site, intent upon the personal lives of the musicians of Led Zeppelin. However, some stories of a personal nature are certainly of interest to Led Zeppelin fans, and if they have potential impact on future musical decisions of band members, relevant.
With that caveat in, a report emerged last week that Robert Plant and his Band of Joy singing partner, Patty Griffin, have married. Nech Tytlia, co-administrator and guru of For Badgeholders Only, considered by myself to be a reliable source, sent a message to subscribers last week. The content of the posting was a simple acronym SSIA (Subject Says It All).
So it would appear that Plant and Griffin, long rumoured to be romantically attached, have exchanged matrimonial vows, although no official word or announcement has emerged as of yet.
Assuming the report to be true, what does it say about Plant’s future musical plans?
Last month he appeared a the El Cosmico for the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music & Love, in Marfa, Texas, with Griffin and a new band, called Crown Vic. They played old rock standards, including some reworked Led Zeppelin songs, in a similar vein to Band of Joy. Plant was also reported to have bought a place in Texas, near the members of Crown Vic (Griffin also resides in Texas).
Based on the marriage report and the report of him moving to Texas, it seems reasonable to assume that Robert Plant’s next project going forward will be Crown Vic, with Griffin.
However, at the Americana Music Awards last month, Plant said of guitarist Buddy Miller, “… I’m never gonna go anywhere without Buddy Miller, ever.”
As available evidence suggests that Crown Vic is, in fact, Plant’s next thing, it may be that Plant had already decided not to work with Buddy Miller on his next project. Miller is, however, a busy in demand musician with his own projects, and it may be that Miller was unavailable for a period.
Whether it’s with Crown Vic, the Band of Joy, or something entirely new, one thing seems likely, wherever Plant goes in the next few years, Patty Griffin will too.

Update: A number of sites have picked up this story, including Classic Rock and Blabbermouth. They are also citing sources as saying Plant and Griffin are sporting wedding rings. Robert Plant, however, is apparently denying they are married.

Update #2: A picture of the couple giving out Halloween treats is currently making the rounds. It is very low def, however, it appears Griffin is wearing a ring on her left hand ring finger

If it is true I think he is making sure he doesn’t lose his connection to roots music in the US. She validates him musically in the genre he wants to pursue. Love it may be but based on what she offers him in the future for his career. Just my thoughts on the subject. Marrying her lays his claim. I kind of feel sorry for her professionally though. Doubt she will be able to continue her stellar understated career.
I’ve had the great fortune of seeing them several times and, while I can’t verify if they are in fact married, I can confirm that they are and have been a couple for much longer than people seem to realize. As far as the “concerns” voiced by nuting, there is no need to worry about validating Mr. Plant as that was already done prior and Patty’s career is just fine with several projects in the works. These are just two people with a lot in common who happened to fall for each other…happens every day.
They have indeed been a couple for a while and haven’t hidden that in their public appearances. In fact they looked quite smitten with each other when I saw them perform together last month and Patty even kissed Robert good bye after he did a duet with her at a gig of her own. A video from Marfa shows her introducing him as her “dear, dear, sweetheart friend.”
They are really good together and both have great musical talent and strengths that neither can overshadow. I hope the rumor is true.
Why would he marry now. He has been with lots of women. It just seemed he would never accomplish that feat again. I can’t see Patti as the love of his life to make that kind of a commitment. If it is true she is one lucky lady. Good Luck Robert Plant whatever you did. Hopefully you can stay true
Maybe she can encourage him to reunite with Jimmy and John Paul.Wishful thinking
Please remove the photo of Robert Plant with the trick or treaters on Halloween. The parents of these kids are outraged that a music journalist in town stole this image from facebook- added the gossip of a wedding ring which was not even there & sent it viral. He turned a very intimate sweet moment of our lives in to a self promoting, gossip creating ugly thing. Please respect all of our privacies.
Kelly- mother of the vampire pictured.
Hi Kelly.
Done. However, I would like to point out, just for the record, that I did not actually put the picture on this sight, just linked to it. But yep, privacy respected.
For the record, it is the publicist that is saying “not to my knowledge” not Robert Plant or Patty Griffin. Also, while the Halloween picture may or may not show Ms. Griffin wearing a wedding ring, she has been seen numerous times with the ring on and it was hardly the act of a single music journalist that got this going.
What a load of lies this “parental cover up” has become….! This photo was NOT originally posted by Michael Corcoran, nor was it stolen……It was posted by someone name “Jaeleigh”, apparently a resident in Austin who took the photo from Facebook or some parents blog and posted it Wed. AM on the WORLDWIDE Led Zep.com site for all to see under the heading simply “Happy Halloween”. Now she has since taken it down and incorrectly stated that Michael Corcoran originally posted it… WRONG!!! Don’t post personal pictures of Robert Plant on the worldwide Zep site and expect them not to be shared…. In actuality, SHAME on the parents that TOOK the photo of Patty and Plant, then had to BRAG about it on Facebook. YOU are the ones that created this mess and the lack of privacy you so desperately SCREAM for, and now you seem to be taking it out an innocent journalist that saw it on the LZ.site Wed AM and shared it. My only thought was when I saw it - what a lovely, innocent and beautiful shot!!! THANKS FOR MAKING THIS UGLY!!!!! Way to go parents - and Jaeleigh…..YOU OWE MR. CORCORAN AN APOLOGY FOR YOUR ONGOING MISREPRESENTATION OF YOUR POSTING THAT PHOTO ON FACEBOOK and LZ.COM! You are the ones that took away Patty and Robert’s “privacy”!!!!
Okay well I think that last post was a bit overboard. That sucks if people are getting in hot water over it, but it was just a cute picture from my point of view. They posed for it so they had to know it might get out. Anyway, here’s to the happy couple whether married or not
