This year,if the NHL doesn’t ever have a season, there MIGHT be a chance for amateur clubs to compete for it,on the basis that the Lord Stanley charter was that the trophy was to be given toa hockey club in Canada. The NHL has rights to the Stanley Cup at the discretion of the trustees,Scotty Morrison and Brian Macneil.
A group of hockey fans has applied to them to allow Canadian amateur teams to compete for it if the NHL doesn’t get it’s act together.
AND NOW THE GOOD NEWS: IF they are successful, and amateur teams ARE allowed to compete for the Cup,and IF the Toronto Maple Leafs were to declare themselves amateurs, they MIGHT be able to beat such teams as the Powell River Regals, and thereby finally win the Stanley Cup!
Now,that’s a LOT of “if’s”, BUT it could happen, and should PR have an “off” series, the Leafs COULD conceivably win!
Ho! Ho! Ho!

That’s a lot of buts, plus the Maple Leafs would still have to beat the amateur teams – all of them. I’ll take my chances with Santa.
