I know conservatives, conservatives are friends of mine…
and you Lisa Raitt, are no conservative.
One of those great non-stories is Lisa Raitt saying the isotope scandal is sexy. Yes, we are talking about people’s lives. Yes it is insensitive. But does anybody believe every other politician doesn’t see issues this way, even if it dramatically affects peoples lives. Does anybody believe editors and reporters don’t look at stories this way, regardless of how much pain and suffering is involved in the story. Frankly, a little less hyperventilating from the latter would do wonders to decrease Canada’s hypocrisy emissions.
No, you want scandal that will stick, here it is:
This is an easy one. You know what solves this problem? Money. And if it’s just about money, we’ll figure it out. It’s not a moral issue.
And again
…it’s sexy,” says Ms. Raitt. “Radioactive leaks. Cancer.”
“Nuclear contamination,” says Ms. MacDonnell.
“But it’s only about money,” says Ms. Raitt.
For a scandal that sticks, pocket book issues can’t be beat. And of course, this is an issue that would anger the Conservatives base voters.

Lisa Raitt's Money Ball
The problem, of course, is that the other parties and the media, see nothing interesting in that quote. Of course issues can be solved with money, that’s why it’s called moneyball, isn’t it? All the easier to throw it around with.
I, however, would like to see Conservative cabinet ministers view their job as something more than throwing my money at their problems. The country has a scandalous $50B deficit, cabinet ministers are caught on tape saying it’s just… money, it’s only… money, and everybody thinks the scandal is she has a mouth like an editor.
I wouldn’t kiss her with that mouth granted, but if your looking for a scandal, go with the money quote everytime.
*************************************
Or the Mulroney-esque “rolling the dice” quote. That one seems even worse to me than calling an life threatening shutdown as “sexy”.
Agree Ted. It’s not even so much the quote, as the ability to connect her in peoples mind to Mulroney that makes that quote so bad. I bet we haven’t heard the last of that one.
Is “potty talk” the same as “pillow talk”? All the secrets are revealed after a bodily function. Who knew it could be this easy to get a news story. I recommend that bathrooms now be swept for microphone bugs and cameras, the MSM has an new source of insider information. Makes me real confident in journalistic integrity.
The real scandal is the $50 billion deficit!
There is no $50 billion Harper deficit. We all wish Harper’s deficit was only $50 billion. Flaherty said “at least” $50 billion.
One month earlier he confirmed it was only going to be $34 billion and it has been ten days since he gave us the bad news. At that rate, the deficit is probably closer to what? $56 billion now?
To paraphrase an old saying about the weather: Don’t like the size of the deficit today? Wait a minute.
Did anyone, ever, suppose that Mulroney was simply, and aptly, making an historical allusion to Julius Caesar’s declaration “The die is cast” when he made a constitutionally risky but decisive decision (to cross the Rubicon river with an army into the precincts of Rome and thus challenge the civilian govenment). Was anyone so historically illiterate as to miss that reference?
Is anyone so dim and literal minded as to not accept the metaphorical use of the term ‘sexy’ in the sesne Raitt used it.
And is anyone so uncultured as to completely miss the literary reference made to the ‘tar baby’ – again as metaphor – in the comments of Poilievre?
Only the media.
CMP ..exactly.
For Lib supporters-you complain about the size of the deficit, yet you think more should be spent.. and what has been doled out, is not getting out fast enough.
Doesn’t it hurt to suck and blow at the same time?
