General James Wolfe: The Hero of Quebec
… if they were the only party that said they wouldn’t allow an independent Quebec a seat at the Bank of Canada.
This is the lesson that Brian Mulroney simply refused to learn. In a post-Quebec Canada, the party that learns it fastest will rule the day.
Canada is blithely heading toward a “great big whacking national unity crisis” over the next two or three years…
And Liberal Party pollsters solution to the “great big whacking crisis”? Elect a Liberal. And hey, not just any Liberal:
…a federal Liberal Party election of Mr. Trudeau (Papineau, Que.) as its leader could radically transform voter options for the next federal election in 2015.

The Canadian flag was removed from the Red Room of the Quebec Legislature Monday so members of the governing Parti Quebecois could take heir oath of office in the presence of just the Quebec Fleur de Lis. 
That’s OK though, they also banned cameras from the ceremony so there was no evidence of them swearing an oath to the Queen – a requirement in Canadian law.
Sure hope they didn’t run on a platform of transparency.
The Canadian flag (and presumably the cameras) were returned to the ceremonial room Tuesday so the members of the Quebec Liberal party could swear their oath in front of it.

A riddle: If a federal politician in Canada removed millions of dollars from the Quebec economy, what would separatist groups do?
If you answered patting them on the back and feeling very proud of them, go to the back of teh calss.
Yet when it is the separatists themselves that are removing millions from the Quebec economy, that’s exactly what they do:
A ragtag army of Quebec separatists, armed only with Internet petitions and menacing e-mails, have triumphed where the French army failed 250 years ago, preventing another British victory on the Plains of Abraham.
Following weeks of mounting controversy that last week reached Parliament, the National Battlefields Commission cancelled its plans to commemorate the anniversary of the historic 1759 battle…
“It’s kind of mind-boggling. I just can’t believe that this handful of people are patting themselves on the back, feeling very proud of themselves. They have no idea what they’re doing for the province.”
He [Horst Dresler, a Vermont resident who was marshalling the 2,100 volunteers that were expected on the Plains] said the thousands of re-enactors and the tourists drawn for the spectacle would have pumped millions into the Quebec City economy.
Worse, these people see this whole charade as a beginning:
Patrick Bourgeois, who has led the charge against the re-enactment, wrote on his Web site on the weekend that the next step should be to push for the removal of “all monuments dedicated to the memory of Wolfe” in Quebec City.
These people aren’t happy hurting the guys who try to make a living in Quebec city’s hospitality industry, they want to eradicate history. That makes them people who must be challenged.

… now if only they would actually leave, instead of just stopping an activity. I’ve been covering this idiotic We Want to Win the Plains of Abraham this story that has been going on over a reenactment of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. Well, it seems the morons rule the day, as the Federal government takes the cowards way out:
Given the real risk of violent confrontation between federalists and sovereignists, the federal government abandoned the idea of a recovery in due form of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.
Ottawa a step backwards, but do not beat a retreat: the Committee on National Battlefields still highlight the 250th anniversary of the Wolfe-Montcalm confrontation through various educational activities dedicated to the history.
And so history will be re-written and violent separatists must be obeyed. For Shame!
